Baseball Thread

Well next month pitchers and catchers report so its getting close . Thought maybe some of you would enjoy a baseball thread to talk about our favorite teams and terrorize each other errr ... I mean engage in some good natured trash talk.

Baltimore Oriole fan for life here. After all the losing seasons in a row I have guarded optimism for this season. For the first time in over a decade Oriole front office has made some decent acquisitions. Trading for Mark Reynolds (3rd Base) , JJ Hardy at SS, Signing Derrick Lee for 1st base, Re-signing our best reliever from last season and adding Jeremy Accardo(sp) and also Kevin Gregg today. We now have bona fide major league talent across the infield where we had rejects and fill-ins for years and now a couple of guys in Lee and Reynolds who should be able to hit at LEAST 30 homers apiece playing in hitter friendly OPACY !!! Very young pitching staff will need to step up this year and fill their potential. Bullpen should be best quality than we have had in years . First full year under manager Buck Showalter and his own coaching staff this year will help as well. BUT we still play in the A.L. East with the damn Yankees and Red Sox !!! Barring injuries though I don't think anyone will be excited about playing us and just maybe, just maybe, if all the planets and stars align just right we could squeeze in as a wildcard. That would be a dream season compared from where we have come from .

I'm reading my first epic fantasy series... it's called A Song of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin... I just started the 4th book called A Feast for Crows... Much like many other fantasy epics, it claims to be the best think since Tolkien... I can't really speak on that since I have yet yo read the Lord of the Rings, but I can say I dig these books. The series is still being written and book five is due out later this year... it has also been picked up by HBO. The pilot was just finished (which is probably why the 5th book is about a year behind schedule). The series has basically ruined me for other books... I can't get into anything else and have no idea what I will do while waiting for the 5th book... so what are you reading?

The president had barely finished speaking when rapper Rick Ross's court-ordered ankle bracelet went off. Yes, a man selected by Mr. Obama to serve as an exemplary racial role model has to wear an ankle bracelet until his trial for aggravated assault and battery, pistol-whipping, and kidnapping (second arrest this month, by the way). Tragically, Ross is not also facing charges for rapping in public.

Call me old fashioned (liberals will surely call me a cross-burning racist) but I have to think the best way to discourage misogynistic, criminally anti-social behavior among black youths may not be honoring rappers who make their millions celebrating misogynistic, criminally anti-social behavior.

Ben Carson, by odd contrast, was not invited.

I got a some good ole fashioned Louisiana red beans and rice simmering away on the stove. Some of you may know that my girlfriend is from Baton Rouge, so I decided to put together a traditional dish from LA. I may be the only person in this city of 2 million cooking red beans and rice tonight. Sadly no corn bread baking
